What are Metaphors?

Metaphors are used to compare two things that that have something in common. Metaphors do not use like or as in their comparisons. Example: The sun was a blazing fire in the sky.

Laughter is the best medicine.
She is just a late bloomer.
Is there a black sheep in your family?
His heart of stone surprised me.
Those best friends are two peas in a pod.
There is a weight on my shoulder.
Time is money.
No man is an island.
That actor is a tall drink of water.
Age is just a number.
Last night I slept the sleep of the dead.
The new parents had stars in their eyes. 
The criminal has blood on his hands.
He is a walking dictionary.
Life is a rollercoaster.
She has been living in a bubble.
Her lovely voice was music to his ears.
We found it under a blanket of sand.
My kid’s room is a disaster area
The classroom was a zoo.
The sun is a golden ball
She is a peacock.
My teacher is a dragon.
Mary’s eyes were fireflies.
The computers at school are old dinosaurs.
He is a night owl.
Maria is a chicken.
